The Gâvre forest is one of Brittany's largest forest massifs — and one of the least known to bikers crossing Loire-Atlantique. A mistake worth correcting.
The Gâvre forest: 4700 hectares of deserted roads
It's the ideal playground for a morning warm-up or a late-afternoon ride. The road surface is clean, the curves are beautiful, and the light filtering through the canopy is something special in autumn.
The weekend circuit — full version
Samedi matin : departure from L'Arbre émaillé around 9 AM, forest loop via Blain (80 km, 1h30). Coffee break at the Château de la Groulais, visit to the medieval ruins if you fancy it.
Samedi après-midi : route vers Redon par la D164, longe la Vilaine jusqu'à Guipry, retour par Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon. 90 km supplémentaires, paysages de rivière magnifiques.
Dimanche : big loop to the Vilaine coast — La Roche-Bernard, suspension bridge, Muzillac, return via Questembert. 150 km, a full day.
Why L'Arbre émaillé is the ideal base
15 minutes from the Gâvre forest's main entrance, L'Arbre émaillé is ideally located to explore the massif. Karine knows every road and prepares suggestions based on your level and desires.
The most popular weekend formula: Friday evening arrival, Karine's dinner, two days on the road, Sunday departure after breakfast. Simple, efficient, memorable.
